(UPDATED MAY 12, 2013)
THE CLUB HISTORY IS A WORK IN PROGRESS
AND IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING UPDATED.
1994 - 1997
In the early 1990s, Don Fox, Dan Rasmussen,
Rick Adelsberger, Mac Poholko and several guys from
Millwoods decided to form a Mopar club in Edmonton.
The club was called "Edmonton Mopars". Don Fox was
the president of the club. Membership in the club was
$10.00 and included a quarterly newsletter.
A weekly meeting spot at established in the Zellers
parking lot at Millwoods Town Centre. This was the
start of the Thursday night Mopar meetings.
The first ever Edmonton Mopars Show & Shine was
held at NAIT in 1994.
This show was a big success
led to bigger and better car shows.
In 1995, 1996 & 1997, Edmonton Mopars organized
and hosted a "Mopars at the Track" Show & Shine at
Capital Raceway (now known as Castrol Raceway).
The show was sponsored by South Trail Chrysler
(now known as Southtown Chrysler).
Tom DeMauro from High Performance Mopar
magazine came to Edmonton in 1996 and covered the
"Mopars at the Track" show. This show was featured
in the magazine and many local Mopars were published.
In late 1997, Don Fox stepped down as president of
Edmonton Mopars and the club was dissolved.
THE TRANSITION YEARS
1998 - 1999
1998 would be a transition year for Edmonton area Mopar
enthusiasts. John and Eva Burton stepped forward to
re-establish the Thursday night Mopar meetings and
organize a Mopar Show & Shine at Westmount Mall.
Eva Burton was able to set up a weekly meeting spot for
local Mopar enthusiasts at Westmount Mall (thanks to her
contacts at the mall). The Thursday night Mopar meetings
were now held in the Zellers parking lot at Westmount Mall.
In the summer of 1998, John and Eva organized a "Mopars at
Westmount Mall" Show & Shine which was held in September.
The success of the show and renewed interest in the local
Mopar scene led to the creation of a new Mopar club.
EDMONTON MOPAR CLUB
1999 to the present
The Edmonton Mopar Club was formally established in 1999.
Julius Laszl spearheaded the creation of the club. The
following people stepped forward to form the club executive:
Julius Laszl was named the club's first ever President.
Del Gray was the club's first Vice President.
Craig Strang was the club's first Treasurer.
Eva Burton was Vice President of Promotions & Events.
Mack Poholko was the club's first Membership Officer.
Aaron Schneider & Harvey Pahl were the Executive Officers.
Membership dues were $20.00 a year and included a
quarterly newsletter, membership cars and window decal.
Jamie Poholko (Mac Poholko's son) was the club's first ever
Newsletter Editor and was responsible for the design and
format of the newsletter (thanks for your help Jamie!).
The club continued to organize and host a yearly Mopar
Show & Shine at Westmount Mall. In the early 2000's,
the Thursday night meetings and yearly Show & Shine
was moved to Kingsway Garden Mall.
In 2007, the club organized and hosted a 10th Anniversary
Show & Shine at Castrol Raceway called "Back to the Track".
